Graham ISD recently released renderings of the baseball and softball field renovations that will be carried out this fall and winter.
Each field is being fitted with a specialized synthetic turf and should be ready by the time the Graham High School baseball and softball seasons start in the spring.
During its meeting Wednesday, Aug. 16, the board approved Paragon Sports Constructors (PSC) to carry out the renovation project of the two fields. The total cost projection for the renovation, which includes labor, equipment, supervision and installation, will be $2,481,900. An additional cost of approximately $50,000 could be added onto that amount but hasn’t been finalized yet.
The additional charge would be for PSC’s “Game On” product. Sports turf fields typically have markings on the field — like yard markings on a football field — cut and glued in separately. The “Game On” product would essentially give the baseball and softball fields a cut-grass pattern without being multiple different pieces, rather just one big piece of turf.
The specialized turf will not be prone to heating up as much as other types of turf and will do a better job of preventing flooding or other problems with heavy amounts of rain. PSC will begin in the next couple of months and GISD Superintendent Sonny Cruse believes the project will be completed by December 2023.
