While the weather might have been turning frightful Monday night, the Graham Lady Blues junior high basketball teams’ play was very delightful. Graham’s 7th and 8th grade girls teams made the trip to Wichita Falls to take on Barwise, with all teams winning. The 7th grade “B” team managed to come away with a 29-18 victory. At the end of the first quarter the Lady Blues held a 7-4 advantage. Graham led 16-10 at halftime, before outscoring Barwise 13-8 in the second half. Karsyn Gallaher led the Lady Blues with 12 points, with Claire Adams and Kaci Reese each adding 4 points. It was a successful night for the 7th grade “A” team as they won their game 33-14. A low scoring first quarter saw Graham struggle offensively. Going into the second the Lady Blues led 7-4. The Lady Blues built up a 16-7 advantage going into the halftime break. Graham claimed victory in the second half, outscoring the Lady Eagles 17-7. Kate Grober led the Lady Blues with 8 points, followed by Zoe Carmichael with 7 points. There was little drama in the 8th grade “B” team contest, as Graham won 29-11. A 12-2 first quarter set the tone for the Lady Blues, who led 16-5 at the half. Barwise managed just six points in the second half. Graham led 23-7 at the end of the third quarter, before scoring six points in the fourth. Addison Kimberling led the Lady Blues with 11 points followed by Reanna Dean with 5 points. Kimberling also led the Lady Blues with 8 total rebounds on the night against Barwise. Graham’s 8th grade “A” team had a close contest for a half, but managed to claim a 34-12 victory. After leading 5-4 at the end of the first, the Lady Blues held a 13-12 lead at the break. However, the defense for the Lady Blues stepped up in the second half, shutting out Barwise in the third and fourth quarters, while scoring 21 points for the half. Ashton Reese and Leah Holland both led Graham with 6 points apiece. Graham will be back in action Monday Dec. 12 at home against Burkburnett with games beginning at 4:30 p.m. The home games will be the last ones of the 2016 calendar year for the Lady Blues, who will then be off until Thursday Jan. 5.
