Steers, Lady Blues bring home wins from Castleberry

The Graham basketball teams hit the road during this final week of the students’ time off from school for a couple of games against Castleberry High School in Fort Worth.

The Steers and Lady Blues met up with the Lions and Lady Lions and both came home with a pair of big wins Tuesday, Jan. 2.

For the Steers, this was their first and only match-up against the Lions this season. But for the Lady Blues, this was their second time seeing the Lady Lions, after defeating them 42-15 at the Hillsboro tournament at the beginning of December.
Below are the results of each team’s game along with scoring statistics for the players.

Steers v. Lions (W), 74-46

The two teams battled in the opening quarter as each team managed to knock down shots in the first minutes. Castleberry led after the first quarter 15-13, but they didn’t hold a lead for most of the rest of the game.

The Steers got their offense working at a high level the rest of the game as they scored 16 points in the second quarter, 18 points in the third quarter and 27 points in the fourth quarter. Graham’s defense held strong against the Lions, never allowing more than 12 points in any of the remaining quarters.

Keion Shead was the leading scorer for Graham with 18 points, the first of three Steers to finish in double figures. He was followed by Ty Thompson with 13 points and Tyler Allen with 11 points.

Brodie Martin, Bryce Martin and Tyson Weaver all recorded 6 points apiece.

Samuel Rodgers scored 5 points, Cash Bowen scored 4 points, Jack Caddell had 3 points and Riley Lanham pitched in 2 points.

Lady Blues v. Lady Lions (W), 54-22

The Lady Blues dominated from the start in this game, as they led 11-3 after the first quarter.

The second quarter is where their offense exploded. Graham put up 21 points opposed to just another three points from Castleberry and the Lady Blues led 32-6 at the halftime break.

The Lady Lions scored a bit more in the third quarter but were shut down again in the fourth and final quarter.

The Lady Blues received balanced scoring all around in this game and every player who checked in recorded at least a point.

Madi Wilde led the team in scoring with 9 points on three 3-pointers followed by 7 points each from Rebecca McGregor and Maddie Franklin. Addyson Weaver and Briley Randall had 6 points apiece with Kimber Pratt pitching in 5 points.

Hallie Gough, Emi Gordy and Fayth Bryer each had 4 points while Hannah Williams scored 2 points.
