Graham Regional Medical Center is prepared for a surge in COVID-19 patients, changing some protocols in the Emergency Room and transforming the former women’s center and general surgery clinic into a COVID-19 center, with a rapid assessment clinic, seven inpatient rooms and an ICU unit.

Following the city of Graham’s decision to enact a shelter-in-place order, Young County Judge John Bullock has amended his Declaration of Imminent Disaster to put into effect a shelter-in-place order for Young County beginning 12 a.m. Wednesday, April 1.
Bullock signed the amended Declaration of Imminent Disaster on Tuesday, March 31. In an email, Judge Bullock said this is an update to the already existing order.
Gov. Greg Abbott issued an Executive Order Tuesday implementing Essential Services and Activities Protocols for the state of Texas. The order includes directions to minimize non-essential gatherings and in-person contact with people who are not in the same household.
Graham ISD Superintendent Sonny Cruse updated the community Friday and over the weekend, communicating the district’s progress in dealing with closures due to COVID-19.
Cruse spoke during a Facebook Live video hosted on the district’s Facebook page Friday and sent additional information to parents after the presentation on Sunday. He said in the next week he will be making a decision to extend the April 3 closure date set by Gov. Greg Abbott.
Editor's Note: This story was current as of Friday, March 27. On Monday, March 30, an emergency city council meeting was called in order to approve a shelter-in-place order which is set to be in effect from 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, March 31 until 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 14.
The city of Graham held a special emergency meeting of the city council Monday in order to enact a shelter-in-place order which was approved to stop the spread of COVID-19.
The Graham ISD board of trustees met in an emergency meeting Friday, March 20 to address the COVID-19 pandemic and the steps the district will be taking. GISD Superintendent Sonny Cruse additionally updated the public with a Facebook livestream Monday, March 23, and touched on issues the district will be tackling regarding COVID-19.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, May 2 Uniform Elections within Young County will proceed as scheduled after contact was made by the Young County Elections Office to each entity contracted.
Young County Elections Administrator, Lauren Sullivan, said she made contact with representatives from Graham ISD, Olney ISD, Newcastle ISD, city of Graham and city of Olney, in order to offer them the chance to postpone their election dates. All entities made the choice to keep all voting and election related dates as they are, according to Sullivan.
