Free Wi-Fi spots around Graham, Brazos offers students internet

As schools continue to be closed due to the COVID-19, Graham ISD has begun to prepare for students to take an online approach to learning.

GISD has spent the last couple of weeks finding ways to get students access to the internet in order to do homework and continue their school online. Graham ISD Superintendent Sonny Cruse said that students have several places where they can get access to the internet both through the school district and Brazos Communications Wi-Fi.

Helping Hearts, healing Young County

Young County has been hit with tornadoes, lay-offs and a national health disaster, but one organization is trying to provide relief to the community.

Shelly Bryant, Tony Ramirez, Travis Stewart and Jack Riddle launched a group on Facebook called Helping Hearts on Wednesday, March 25. Their goal is to meet the needs of those in Young County through the help of HighRidge Church and several Young County residents.

Crawfish and Cannons canceled, Goodnight-Loving Run event goes virtual

Following the COVID-19 declarations of Young County and Texas Governor, the Graham Convention and Visitors Bureau has canceled the Crawfish and Cannons event at Fort Belknap and have made Goodnight-Loving Run a virtual run.

The 5th Annual Crawfish and Cannons at Fort Belknap was scheduled for April 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

GISD to pass out learning materials for remote learning

Schools all across the country are heading into uncharted waters as campuses remain closed due to COVID-19, but Graham ISD has a plan for remote learning starting with the distribution of materials.

GISD campuses will be distributing materials for remote learning on each campus, Friday, March 27 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. In a ParentSquare email, GISD reminded parents to stay in their vehicles when picking up materials.

GISD offering student food program during school closure

Graham ISD, in order to help feed students during the school closure, announced a free curbside meal program Friday.

“I am pleased to announce that Graham ISD’s Free Curbside Meal Program for children age 2-18 will begin on Monday, March 23rd,” said GISD Superintendent Sonny Cruse in a release.

Both breakfast and lunch will be served at Pioneer, Crestview and Woodland Elementary campuses. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to Noon.

County Judge clarifies Gov. Abbott’s restrictions, punishment for violation

Young County Judge John Bullock released clarifications Friday about Gov. Greg Abbott’s COVID-19 restriction orders and the punishment for those looking not to follow the orders.

Bullock said the restriction on gatherings of 10 persons does include cashiers, waiter staff, cooks and more. The restriction will limit meetings such as Young County Commissioners Court, city council, civic clubs, church services and other meetings.
