Come one, come all: Lions Club Carnival lights up Graham next week

Since 1974, the Lions Club Carnival has been held in Graham and that tradition returns next week with games, rides and more to light up the downtown square.

The carnival will be held on the Graham downtown square May 7-9 opening each night at 5:30 p.m. 

Lions Club Member and Carnival Chairman Jim Senkel has been involved since the beginning of the carnival in Graham and said it’s always been an important event not only for the community but for giving back.

Update 4:30 p.m. April 24 – The GRMC auxiliary Chalupa Luncheon has been moved to the First United Methodist Church McCree Hall.

The fundraising tradition for the Graham Regional Medical Center auxiliary returns this week on the downtown square in a new location.

The Chalupa Luncheon fundraiser will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30 inside the downtown square at the corner of Second Street and Oak Street. A bake sale will be held at 10 a.m., followed by lunch at 11 a.m.

GISD says it cannot comply with state-mandated bus seat belts

The Graham ISD Board of Trustees made a determination this week that their budget would not allow them to purchase or outfit their buses to comply with Senate Bill 546 mandating three-point seat belts by 2029.

SB 546 was effective in June 2025 and requires the school districts to make a budget limitation determination by the end of the 2025-2026 school year and submit to the Texas Education Agency the estimated cost to equip each bus operated by or contracted for use.

Cinco de Mayo hits downtown next weekend

The sounds, sights, smells and culture of the Festival de Cinco de Mayo de Graham will take over the downtown square next weekend.

The annual event is organized by the Graham Downtown Business Association to bring the community together, celebrate culture and continue downtown growth. 

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 2 with free admission and around 40 vendors lined up on Fourth Street with a number of food and beverage options.

Free Little Libraries installed in Graham

Following the placement and dedication of a Free Little Library at Firemen’s Park, now four of the locations are scattered around Graham to encourage a love of reading in the community.

Members of the Library of Graham, Graham Chamber of Commerce and others gathered Thursday, April 23 at Firemen’s Park to dedicate the Free Little Library.

On top of an existing location at the Library of Graham, Free Little Libraries were installed at Firemen’s Park, Fisher Street Park and at the Graham Municipal Swimming Pool.

TxDOT to accept local feedback for transportation projects

The Wichita Falls District of Texas Department of Transportation will be accepting input in May on transportation projects scheduled for the next four years in Young County and the area.

The 2027-2030 Rural Transportation Improvement Program (RTIP) for the Wichita Falls District includes the counties of Archer, Baylor, Clay, Cooke, Montague, Throckmorton, Wichita, Wilbarger and Young.

City renews contract with Humane Society of Young County

Following a decision to negotiate the rate structure with the city of Graham and the Humane Society of Young County for animal sheltering services, the city approved a service agreement under the previous payment structure.

HSYC is a nonprofit organization that receives funding from the city of Graham, city of Newcastle, city of Olney and Young County under different contracts for the animal care services.

‘I Voted’ sticker design contest underway

The Young County Elections Department is calling on Young County students to design the next “I Voted” sticker for the upcoming November election.

The sticker design contest is open to all students in the county, including homeschool students. The winning design will be used as the official “I Voted” sticker that will be distributed to voters during the November election.

Young County Elections Administrator Kaitlyn Mosley said she saw other counties hold a similar contest and thought it would be a fun addition for the November election.

Drug Take Back Day event Friday

Graham Police Department and Graham Regional Medical Center are partnering to help dispose of old, expired or dangerous medications no longer being used as a part of National Drug Take Back Day.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 24 at North Central Texas College at 928 Cherry St. in Graham. The service will be free and anonymous.
