City approves Salt Creek BRA property transfer

The Graham City Council approved the transfer of Brazos River Authority property on Salt Creek which, with previously-owned city land, could allow for annexation or green space.

The city council met Thursday, Feb. 19 and approved a transfer of property agreement between the BRA and the city which includes 175 acres of landlocked property on Salt Creek along with city-owned property on each side.

Graham city council to consider prohibiting electronic scooters

The Graham City Council will consider an ordinance amendment this week that could prohibit use of an electronic scooters on public property.

The city council will consider a first reading of ordinance amendments Thursday, March 5 that would prohibit the use of motor-assisted scooters, or e-scooters, on public property by anyone other than those with disabilities.

Two sections of the code of ordinances are going to be considered for amendments during the meeting. One proposed amendment is under Section 24.13, or the use of roller skates, coasters, etc. on roadways.

Grayson sentenced on community supervision violations

After accepting a plea agreement of 10 years deferred adjudication in May 2025, Jordan Grayson was sentenced to 28 years in prison for violating his terms of community supervision.

Grayson, 32, of Olney, was sentenced Wednesday, Feb. 18 to 28 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice - Institutional Division and assessed a fine of $3,000 for his charge of promoting prostitution of a person younger than 18 years of age.

GISD board denies period of prayer, reading of religious text

The Graham ISD Board of Trustees voted not to adopt a resolution to add a policy allowing a period of prayer and reading of the Bible or other religious text in public schools.

The GISD administration recommended the board not adopt a resolution during their meeting Wednesday, Feb. 25. The board voted to not adopt the policy, with board member Brandon Joy voting against and Jason Smith absent at the meeting.

City council takes no action on potential reduction of employees

The Graham City Council took no action on issuing a notice regarding a proposed reduction in city personnel during their first budget workshop.

The first workshop was held Tuesday, Feb. 17 with the city council starting its extended effort to plan for the upcoming fiscal year budget. City Manager Eric Garretty proposed layoffs at the Library of Graham and the Parks Department.

GISD presents calendar survey feedback, community input

The Graham ISD Calendar Committee has collected feedback from the school and community which will help shape the schedule for the 2026-2027 school year.

The committee is made up of teachers, staff, administrators, parents and community members. 

The group held three meetings to review the calendar and those results were presented to the GISD Board of Trustees during a special meeting Wednesday, Feb. 25.

City pursuing $14.6 million debt issuance

The city of Graham took the next step during a budget workshop in its pursuit of potential debt for a rehabilitation project at the wastewater treatment plant and the purchase of a new fire truck.

During the workshop held Tuesday, Feb. 17, the city council approved pursuing a new fire truck for Graham Fire Department which was included in a Notice of Intent (NOI) to issue Certificates of Obligation (COs) not to exceed $14.6 million along with a wastewater plant rehabilitation project.

City of Graham, GPD officers sued for 2024 fatal shooting

The city of Graham, Graham Police Department and three of its officers are being sued for $10 million by the family of John Rice, who was killed in a police altercation in February 2024.

The mother and father of John Rice, Christopher and Barbara Rice, are suing the city, GPD and officers David Lipsey, Josh Hufstedler and Christopher Post for damages of at least $10 million as well as punitive damages.

The family is suing the city and its officers for alleged excessive force and inadequate training of personnel regarding the fatal shooting of John on Feb. 5, 2024.
