Steers come up short in 60-58 loss to Sanger

It came down to the final seconds of the game but the Graham Steers came out on the losing end of a 60-58 match-up against the Sanger Indians.

Stats-wise, the two teams were even Tuesday, Nov. 21 in just about every major category that contributes to a win or a loss. Both teams shot 42% from the field with Sanger converting 38% from 3-point range while Graham hit 36% from deep. The Steers had a higher free throw percentage in the game, as well.

Lady Blues have mixed results at Bowie tourney

Last week, the Graham Lady Blues competed at a tournament in Bowie to put their skills up against various teams from around the area.

The Lady Blues found mixed results in the tourney as they came away from four games with an even 2-2 record. Graham took losses Monday, Nov. 20 against Windthorst and Iowa Park, then came back on Tuesday to earn wins against Childress and Bowie.

GHS soccer programs trending upwards

It’s only been around for five years, but the Graham High School soccer program has taken off since its inception.

As the boys and girls coaches prepare for this upcoming season, they are expecting one of the biggest turnouts of players interested in the team in years.

On the Steers side, head coach Tim Wankowicz believes they’ll have 60-70 boys trying out, while Lady Blues head coach Casey Weil expects a number lower than that, but still higher than usual.

Lady Blues receive All-District honors

The volleyball season has ended, but the awards came in for a number of Lady Blues players for their performances both on the court and in the classroom this past season.

Leading the way for the Lady Blues was junior Braylee Mayes who was named Co-Utility Player of the Year for District 6-4A.

Graham had four players make all-district teams for their play on the court. Junior Lillian Noble and senior Olga Morales were named to 1st Team All-District while juniors Georgia Martin and Emilee Gordy were named 2nd Team All-District.

Lady Blues fall to Nocona, 57-33

After claiming their first win of the season earlier in the week, the Graham Lady Blues ran into some difficulties against the Nocona Lady Indians in a 57-33 loss Friday, Nov. 17.

The visiting Lady Indians came into the game ranked No. 3 in Class 2A in Texas and showed why they’ve earned that ranking throughout the game. Nocona jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers before Maddie Franklin got the Lady Blues on the board with a layup to make it 8-2.

Newcastle’s season ends with loss to powerhouse Benjamin

It’s not often in football a team scores 84 points and takes a loss but that’s what happened to the Newcastle Bobcats in their area round playoff game Friday, Nov. 17 against the Benjamin Mustangs.

The Bobcats (10-2) gave every bit of effort they had but ultimately came away with a 112-84 loss to the Mustangs (12-0). The final result ends Newcastle’s season as Benjamin continues on in the playoffs.

Comeback falls short as Steers’ season ends

Graham was put to the test in its area round match-up with West Plains and came out on the wrong side of things with a 35-17 loss to end the team’s season Friday, Nov. 17.

Playing at a neutral site in Childress, the Steers fought hard the entire game, but the Wolves’ offense combined with a handful of Steers’ miscues led to the close of Graham’s season.

The Steers (10-2) trailed at halftime by a close score of 14-10 to the Wolves (11-1), but the attempt to mount a comeback in the second half was foiled by a solid West Plains defense and a few Graham turnovers.

Steers, Lady Blues win at Quanah

The Graham High basketball teams hit the road this week for games against the Quanah Indians and Lady Indians.

The road trip Tuesday, Nov. 14 was worth it as both teams came away with their first victories of the season with the Steers winning 74-25 and the Lady Blues winning 42-20.

The Steers kicked off their season with a 1-0 record after playing scrimmages the week prior to the game against Quanah. The Lady Blues earned their first win after a couple of hard-fought losses from the week before.
