Positive case confirmed from Young County Courthouse

Young County Judge John Bullock confirmed Monday evening that an employee of the Young County Courthouse has tested positive for COVID-19.

The county is currently in the process of tracing all who have been associated with the positive case and those in close contact with the employee beginning Thursday, June 18. Bullock said in a press release that the courthouse will be contacting those who may have been exposed to the positive case at the courthouse.

Young County sees increased COVID-19 cases, testing to continue

Editor’s Note: Two more COVID-19 cases were confirmed as of Monday night. One of the cases from Palo Pinto County and the other was from Young County.

Young County has seen a spike in positive cases for COVID-19 over the last few weeks with six to eight active cases and 21 overall positive cases, according to Young County Local Health Authority, Dr. Pat Martin.

Martin confirmed Monday that Young County has 16 active cases. The five remaining active cases were tested locally, but reside outside the county.

UPDATE: Five new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Young County

Five new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Young County, with one Wednesday night and four Thursday afternoon. There were also 12 questionable positives coming from a Young County nursing home, after the Texas National Guard tested residents and staff.

One new COVID-19 case was confirmed in Young County Wednesday night, along with 12 possible positives coming from a Young County nursing home after the Texas National Guard tested residents and staff.

New COVID-19 case, positive antibody test in Young County

The county had not seen a case of COVID-19 since April 28, but on Sunday, Young County Local Health Authority Dr. Pat Martin, confirmed Young County’s fifth case, followed by another confirmed postive antibody test Monday. The total number of cases confirmed in the county is now at five, and including outside the county confirmations is at eight. The announced case are the only active cases in Young County.

Federal judge allows mail-in ballots in Texas

Texas federal judge Fred Biery, on May 20, ruled that all voters afraid of catching COVID-19 can request absentee mail-in ballots due to the pandemic.

Biery ruled that "disability" extends to registered voters who lack immunity from COVID-19 and fear infection at polling places. Texas' election code defines "disability" as "a sickness or physical condition that prevents the voter from appearing at the polling place on election day without a likelihood of needing personal assistance or of injuring the voter's health."

Gov. Abbott opens more businesses under Phase II of Open Texas plan

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott held a press conference May 18, where he announced the next phase in his plan to reopen the Texas economy. Phase II of Gov. Abbott’s plan includes bars, bowling alleys, child care facilities, professional and youth sports, among other businesses and organizations.

“We are getting through this, but now more than ever we need to work together as one Texas,” Abbott said.
