Scope of city trails project adjusted

After holding the approval for a bid on the construction of trails at Firemen’s Park, the Graham City Council approved a company to complete the work and adjusted the scope of work to remove a proposed trail.

The council met Thursday, Aug. 7 and approved a bid by Finco Family Enterprises LLC and removed the Graham soccer field trail from the scope of work, with the tradeoff being that proposed trails would be widened and improved in Firemen’s Park.

Wichita Falls Area Food Bank speaks on local impact

Representatives from the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank spoke with local volunteers and leaders regarding the impact of the passage of H.R.1 “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” on their operations and support.

New polycarts, dumpsters to be delivered starting next week

New polycarts and dumpsters will begin to be delivered to residents next week by KC Dumpsters, the new company contracted with the city of Graham for garbage collection services.

Existing city customers will have new polycarts and dumpsters delivered from Monday, Aug. 18 through Sunday, Aug. 31. The new polycarts and dumpsters must be used when collection services begin for KC Dumpsters in September.

GISD approves personal communication device policy

The Graham ISD Board of Trustees approved a policy in line with House Bill 1481, restricting the use of cellphones and other personal communication devices.

Following a meeting last week, the school board met Tuesday, Aug. 12 and approved the 2025-2026 Student Code of Conduct and updated policy on cellphone use.

All school districts and charter schools must adopt a policy by Thursday, Sept. 18, or 90 days after the HB 1481 was signed Friday, June 20 by Gov. Greg Abbott.

City council shuts down license plate reader cameras

After considering Flock Safety cameras utilizing license plate readers at each entrance to Graham, the city council removed funding for the project from the proposed budget.

Though the entrance cameras were not approved, funding has been allocated in the proposed budget for Flock Safety cameras at one intersection in Graham and for motioning the downtown square.

The Graham City Council met Thursday, Aug. 7 for a budget workshop where they voted on recommended amendments to the in-progress budget. One of these amendments was for the removal of funding for the cameras.

A third reading of an ordinance raising the water and sewer rates was adopted by the city council during the meeting which will impact city residents starting in October.

New city water, sewer rates approved

After hosting a public hearing in July, the Graham City Council met last week and on a third reading adopted a 7% increase to the water and sewer rates beginning in October.

Readings for the ordinance change adopting the new raised rates were approved during city council meetings held Thursday, June 26, Thursday, July 17 and Thursday, Aug. 7. The council had no further discussion during the third reading Aug. 7 and adopted the new rates.

GISD board votes against UIL participation for homeschool students

The Graham ISD Board of Trustees for a second year voted against allowing homeschool students to participate in UIL activities. 

The board came to this decision during their meeting Wednesday, Aug. 6, unanimously voting 7-0 on a motion to opt out of UIL participation for homeschool students. 

This includes all sports programs at Graham High School as well as participation in activities such as band.

A legacy built brick by brick: Habitat for Humanity closes out 18 years of giving

It was in 2006 that the foundation was established for a local group that created 16 new homes and served 20 local families. In 2024, that legacy came to a close for Graham Habitat for Humanity.

For 18 years, the organization accepted applications and a family selection committee determined potential partner families. The families entered into a 20-year mortgage commitment with the local organization.

Each partner family agreed to perform 300 hours of sweat equity volunteer work. The work was completed on both their project as well as other projects.

GISD board discusses cellphone, device policy

The Graham ISD Board of Trustees will be voting next week on a new policy for restricting the use of cellphones and other personal communication devices during the school day.

Assistant Superintendent Robert Loomis spoke to the board Wednesday, Aug. 6 about the in-progress Student Code of Conduct and the policy for personal communication devices for the upcoming school year.
