Growing with students: West begins principal role at Woodland Elementary School

Moving into her 26th year in education, Jamie West is looking to grow and push the future of Graham through her new role as principal of Woodland Elementary School.

After former Graham Junior High School Principal Sam Perry closed out six years with the district in April, seven-year Woodland Principal Audra Barrett was appointed to that position in May. 

West has 20 years of teaching experience from Lewisville ISD, Northwest ISD and Electra ISD.

Preparing the future of Graham: Anderson starts as GHS principal

Guiding the future of students and educators at the Graham High School campus will be on the shoulders of new principal Adam Anderson – a task he is undertaking with enthusiasm and sincerity.

Born and raised in Amarillo, Anderson received a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education Teaching and Coaching from Brigham Young University in 2013 and a Master of Science in Sports Management from Texas A&M University in 2018. 
He later received his Principal Certification from Lamar University in 2022.

GRMC gearing up for annual health fair

Despite it being the summer, Graham Regional Medical Center is taking no days off in educating the public about their health and well being. 

In the coming weeks, the hospital is beating the heat and taking its services to Graham High School for their annual community health fair.

The fair will run from 6-10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, with the hospital advertising free blood work, vision screening and over 30 health and wellness booths for visitors.

Hearing to determine release of Kendrex White from mental health facility

After being found not guilty by reason of insanity for the May 2017 fatal stabbing of Harrison Brown, Kendrex White will have a court hearing next week to determine if he is released from a forensic mental health facility.

White, who was diagnosed with a schizoaffective disorder, was ruled not guilty by reason of insanity Dec. 11, 2018 in Travis County. Following the ruling, he was transferred for treatment to North Texas State Hospital in Vernon and later to Kerrville State Hospital.

SNAP cuts could have lasting impact on food banks

With passage of the H.R.1 “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” changes are on the way with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program that could impact Texas residents that utilize the food benefit program.

Wichita Falls Area Food Bank (WFAFB) said the act signed into law Friday, July 4 will impact access to affordable food for thousands across North Texas. 

The organization distributed a total of 713,641 pounds of food to Graham from 2021-2023, with a total of 288,114 pounds distributed in 2023.

Snow honored with ENA Lifetime Achievement Award

The Emergency Nurses Association announced Graham resident Sally Snow as a recipient of the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Snow was one of three Lifetime Achievement Award winners who was named during the 2025 ENA Achievement Awards announcement in May. The 2025 ENA award recipients and other honorees will be recognized Sept. 17-20 during Emergency Nursing 2025 in New Orleans.

Snow has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and is a Registered Nurse, Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse and a Fellow of the Academy of Emergency Nursing.

County accepting bids on courthouse gazebo removal

The Young County Commissioners Court has decided next steps for the courthouse gazebo and will be accepting sealed bids at the end of July for its purchase and removal. 

The commissioners made the announcement at their meeting Monday, July 7. The proposal was presented by Young County Judge Win Graham. 

“This has come from people requesting the gazebo and knowing that we have a plan to replace the gazebo,” Graham said. “We have people interested in taking the gazebo and refurbishing it.”

Graham FFA is seeking support to assist those in Texas impacted by the recent flooding by collecting gift cards for families.

The local FFA chapter is hosting a flood relief gift card drive through Sunday, July 20 with the hope of helping families one card at a time. 

The local organization is accepting gift cards to the retailers H-E-B, Walmart, Lowe’s Home Improvement and Home Depot as well as prepaid cards for gas stations and Visa and Mastercards.

Living a dog’s life: K-9 Ragnar retired to handler David Lipsey

With five years of service to the city of Graham, K-9 Ragnar was retired from Graham Police Department and will have a new duty – staying at the home of former handler David Lipsey.

It was a time of celebration last month when GPD K-9 Officer David Lipsey was approved to receive Ragnar by the Graham City Council during their meeting Thursday, June 26.
