A master of the brickiverse will be sharing his and others Lego creations this summer on the downtown square.

A chip off the old block, Beck Lundgren, the 8-year-old son of Sarah and Brant Lundgren, is seeing his dream turn into a reality with Lego Looks by Beck, an interactive museum of Lego sets and original creations.

The idea for the museum was sparked by Beck’s love of Legos, but also a logistics issue.

“It's been hard for me to show people my Legos just by bringing them in my backpack,” Beck said. “So I thought this would be a good idea.”

Lake Country Art Show hosting public reception next week

With 41 entries across multiple mediums, the Lake Country Art Show drew in a diverse selection of artwork at the Fourth Corner Mall in Graham.

For over 75 years, Graham Art Guild has hosted the art showcase. This year’s entries will be on display with free admission through Saturday, June 21 at the Fourth Corner Mall at 401 Fourth St. 

A reception for the artists and the public will be held from 1-3 p.m. June 21 at the Fourth Corner Mall.

Delicious Decade: Visit Graham Food Truck Championship of Texas closes out 10 years

It was a celebration of a decade of delicious downtown eats and activities in Graham this weekend with the 10th annual Food Truck Championship of Texas.

The Visit Graham organization, which hosted the event Saturday, June 7, said it has grown into something of a tradition for the area each year, drawing in thousands to the downtown square.

“It brings so many people to town. It’s what we’re known for. It’s kind of our identity out in the world,” Visit Graham CEO Cathy Partridge said. “…It brings people back over and over, and it’s a great family gathering.”

GISD sets future goals: District strategic plan established for 2025-2028

After months of planning beginning in early 2025, Graham ISD has set a roadmap for the future of the district with a strategic plan set for 2025-2028.

The Graham ISD Board of Trustees met Wednesday, Jan. 15 and accepted a budget amendment of up to $30,000 for the creation of the strategic plan with N2 Learning. N2 Learning and GISD partnered in 2017-2018 to develop the former strategic plan. 

A 50-plus member committee of community members, parents and GISD staff and students worked to establish the strategic plan.

Ending the stigma: Helping serve veterans during PTSD Awareness Month

The month of June serves as a call for awareness of post-traumatic stress disorder throughout the country and that support is extending to those suffering in Young County through local efforts.

Young County Veterans Service Officer Adam LaVine said PTSD is the second leading cause of death for veterans aged 18-44 and the fourth leading cause for those aged 45-54. He said there are 17.6 veteran suicides per day across the country, with action needed to support those suffering.

Free Fishing Day Saturday

The annual Free Fishing Day across public waterways in the state of Texas returns this Saturday for state residents and out-of-state visitors without a fishing license.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said the state has six million acres of public waterways which support recreational opportunities for two million licensed anglers spending an estimated $9 billion annually on fishing-related expenditures.

Engineers provide status update on wastewater treatment plant

The city of Graham’s engineering group Freese and Nichols provided a condition assessment of the wastewater treatment plant stating the facility will require a complete rehabilitation or replacement.

The Graham City Council approved a $354,800 agreement with Freese and Nichols in March to update the city’s Wastewater Master Plan and perform preliminary design on proposed renovations at the wastewater treatment plant.

County speaks about solar farm tax abatement

The Young County Commissioners Court spoke regarding the next steps on the Tapaderos Solar farm project at their meeting and a potential tax abatement that could come with the project.

The commissioners spoke Monday, June 2 with Capex Resources to discuss consultation about a tax abatement for the solar project. 

Jeff Snowden, principal of Capex Consulting Group, presented to the commissioners about the abatement while also the court received comments from the public.

Firemen’s Park trails project moving forward

After being held up due to grant requirements, the city of Graham will be moving forward with the bidding process to start work on new trails at Firemen’s Park.

The city’s contracted engineering firm Jacob & Martin was notified in late January that the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department denied its redesign of the trail project in Firemen’s Park and a new design was required to move forward.

City Manager Eric Garretty announced to the Graham City Council during their meeting Thursday, May 22 that their new design was approved by TPWD.
