Summer Reading Program begins in June

The Library of Graham’s annual Summer Reading program begins next month with activities each Wednesday outside the library in Shawnee Park. The program looks to bridge the reading gap which occurs in the summer into the following school year for area children.

The program runs Wednesday, June 7 through Wednesday, July 26. Participants in the program read and record minutes of reading from Monday through Friday each week.

Dulany steps into CVB manager role

This week, Amanda Dulany stepped into the role of manager of the Graham Convention and Visitors Bureau with a goal of bringing new and exciting elements to existing events as well as new experiences to Graham.

Originally from Benbrook, Dulany moved to Graham in 2016 with her family. She graduated from the University of North Texas in 2009 with a Bachelor of Social Work.
Dulany said she is looking forward to the fast-paced nature of the position as well as making connections within the community to work toward a common goal.

Giving Graham a facelift: EDC facade improvement program provides funding for 13 businesses

Graham Assistant City Manager and Economic Development Director Grant Ingram gave an update last week regarding the Facade Improvement Grant, which was offered as a way for businesses to beautify their properties. The $50,000 allotted for the program was used on 13 grants around the city.

In April 2022, the Graham City Council gave the approval for the Graham Economic Improvement Corporation (GEIC) to move forward with the creation and implementation of a Facade grant as a way to assist business owners and help beautify the community.

Graham ISD honors students’ academic, fine arts achievements

Graham ISD recognized the accomplishments of students in the district Wednesday, May 10 at Graham High School. Recognitions were given for students’ academic and fine arts achievements during the 2022-2023 school year.

Lake Eddleman cleanup continues after oil spill

Luminant, operators of Graham Power Plant, reported a spill Tuesday, May 9 of an “unknown quantity” of lubrication oil into Lake Eddleman, the city’s primary surface water supply. GPO Manager at Luminant, Greg Stuckey, said Monday, May 15 that cleanup was completed with the company shifting to maintenance of the spill.

The plant manager said Monday that the leak was isolated and the oil that spilled into the lake has been cleaned. He said the plant has moved to daily inspections in a maintenance mode.

Depending on one another: Bravo Company reunites in Graham, recounts Vietnam War

Six members of the U.S. Army Infantry Unit, Bravo Company, met in Graham last weekend to recount their experiences of the Vietnam War and reconnect with one another.

All of those present at the reunion were in Vietnam for one year, but arrived at different times after being drafted. Among them was Ed Betzer, John Evancho, Ted Pettengill, Eldon Easterday, Chuck Snyder and Graham’s David Bowden.

GISD board approves over $400,000 in fund balance purchases

Over $400,000 in fund balance purchases were approved by the Graham ISD Board of Trustees during their meeting Wednesday, May 10. The purchases include two new buses and maintenance trucks.

The board was initially presented with over $1 million in potential projects to be expended from the district’s fund balance. Following the GISD bond election failing in a special election held Saturday, May 6, Board President Andrea Lowery said they needed to reevaluate where they use funds.

Oil spill occurs at Lake Eddleman

Graham Luminant Power Plant reported a spill today of an “unknown quantity” of lubrication oil into Lake Eddleman, the city’s primary surface water supply.

At 2:55 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, Graham City Manager Eric Garretty was notified the power plant reported the spill. Further investigation by power plant and city of Graham employees was completed regarding the scope of the spill.
