Fourth, Tennessee intersection to be reconfigured as four-way stop

Following a recommendation from Graham Police Department, the Graham City Council approved a reconfiguration of Fourth Street and Tennessee Street as a four-way stop.

The city council met Thursday, June 5 and were presented a recommendation from City Manager Eric Garretty and GPD Chief Brent Bullock. 

The recommendation was for the reconfiguration of the Fourth Street and Tennessee Street intersection along with the intersection of Third Street and Cherry Street.

Despite making Graham her home less than one year ago, Tristin Nugen has established herself at The Graham Leader as a sales representative seeking to promote businesses around the area.

Nugen was born in Stephenville and grew up in Weatherford before making her stop in Graham. 

What drew her to the sales position was a love of the newspaper industry and a drive to become a part of it.

“I’ve always thought the newspaper was cool. …I’ve always been interested in the press. I waited tables for a million years so I feel like I’m pretty good at sales,” Nugen said.

Graham considering cameras, license plate readers for city entrances

As budget discussions are underway for the city of Graham, one item being added to the proposed budget is for cameras utilizing license plate readers at each entrance to the city.

The city was provided a quote from Flock Safety of $24,500 for six Falcon ALPR cameras and one Falcon LR camera using the FlockOS system along with installation. The $24,500 is the first year’s cost and would have a recurring cost of $24,500.

Graham Regional Theatre will be showcasing the Summer Youth Theatre Camp’s latest production this Friday and Saturday. 

The theatre camp production is the latest joy of directors Stormie Gage Harris and Madison Freeman. 

For Harris, this is her first theatre camp production and she is looking forward to how its going to turn out. 

“I’m looking forward to working with the kids and being a mentor for this show they’re going to create,” Harris said.

Andrew Clinton was the first to overcome the Brickhouse Pizza & Taproom 56-ounce Prime Rib Challenge in March, but that milestone was to set him upon a new weight loss journey.

It was Saturday, March 22 when Clinton was running late and saving his appetite for Brickhouse Pizza & Taproom in Graham when it opened later in the day. 

He went in with the intention of eating a salad and steak before he saw the sign at the entrance advertising the challenge.

City council approves generators for water treatment plant

The city of Graham will be repurposing two electric generators and purchasing three more to use in case of a power outage at the water treatment plant.

The Graham City Council approved Thursday, May 22 the transfer of $700,000 from the Lakes Fund to the Water Capital Fund in support of the purchase of three electrical generators for the city’s water treatment plant.

Jordan Grayson accepted a plea agreement of 10 years deferred adjudication, community supervision for a charge of promoting prostitution of a person younger than 18 years old.

Grayson, 31, of Olney, accepted the plea deal Tuesday, May 27 for the first degree felony charge and will be required to register as a sex offender. He was assessed a fine of $3,000 and 75 conditions of community supervision.

County commissioners approve use of metal detectors at Fort Belknap

A significant change is coming to a major historical site just outside of Graham. The Fort Belknap reserve is now going to be allowing metal detecting enthusiasts to use their equipment on the reservations premises. 

This decision came down from the Young County Commissioners court during their meeting Tuesday, May 27. 

The court voted unanimously to approve the usage of metal detectors on reservation property after the fort’s director Jim Hammond proposed the advantages of this activity.

New names sought for New Century Veterans Memorial

The Young County New Century Veterans Memorial board is seeking new names to be added to the wall located near the Young County Courthouse.

The deadline to submit an application for inclusion on the memorial wall is Wednesday, June 18. To request an application, contact NCVM Chairman Toby Reddell at 940-549-5555, or at toby@grahamattorney.com.

On the application is the name requested to be engraved, their military branch, the date they entered active duty, the contact information of who is submitting the request and a comment section.

Graham ISD kicked off its annual summer meal program this week that provides free meals for children 18 and younger at Pioneer Elementary School. 

The program in Graham is made possible through funding from the United States Department of Agriculture. The National School Lunch Program is a federally assisted meal program for public, nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions.
