Cowboys suffer first loss of the season to Gorman

The Bryson Cowboys’ undefeated streak ended at five after Friday's 78-58 loss to Gorman at home. Things were going well for the Cowboys after getting up 22-8 in the first quarter, but Gorman took a two-point lead into the halftime break after outscoring Bryson 24-8 in the second quarter. "We started off great, scoring immediately and then forcing a punt to go up 16-0," Bryson coach Jason Briles said. "But then Gorman got settled in." Turnovers didn't help the Cowboys either. Bryson had two fumbles and three turnovers-on-downs inside the Gorman 10-yard line that proved to be the difference in t

Bryson wins after tough homecoming start

The Bryson Cowboys won their fifth straight game with a 61-16 homecoming win over Woodson. Though the final outcome seemed ideal, the first quarter ended in a 16-16 tie before the Cowboys ran away with the victory. “It was a tough first quarter,” Bryson coach Jason Briles said. “I think we were distracted by all the homecoming activities and it took us a quarter to get our bearings.” It wasn’t until defensive coordinator Hunter Hayes began making substitutions that the Cowboys began to find their stride. “The bench speaks much louder than me,” Hayes told Briles during the contest.

Blues take district opener against Hirschi in dominant fashion

The Lady Blues volleyball team made quick work of the Hirschi Huskies Friday night in the district opener. In three straight sets the Blues won 25-2; 25-9; 25-12. The win was a chance for the Blues to get valuable court time throughout the bench, according to coach Marci Faulk. “Elizabeth Routon and Aubrey Beggs got some back row time,” Faulk said. “That will give them valuable experience as underclassmen. We rested Jasmine [Sims] and I liked how my other hitters stepped up. That’s important at the start of district and heading into the playoffs.

Lady Blues electrify in final match before district

In their final contest before district play, the Lady Blues volleyball team completed one of the season’s best wins against the Lady Trojans in Windthorst Tuesday night. Graham took the first set 25-21 before falling 25-23 in the second. After the second set, the Blues came alive with impressive wins of 25-15 and 25-14 to close out the match. “I thought third and fourth sets were really good,” coach Marci Faulk said. “We weren’t playing terrible before that, but we didn’t play as clean and tight as we should have been. The passing wasn’t good, which limits your hitting.

Graham falls in Vernon 17-2, Montfort continues success

Graham tennis took a tough 17-2 loss Tuesday afternoon in Vernon. Despite the one-sided final, boys ace Marcus Montfort had an extremely successful day, winning both of his events. Montfort teamed with Sabryna Adrianson to win the mixed doubles event before winning his individual contest against Vernon’s ace. In the individual event, Montfort dropped the first set but bounced back to take the second and the tie-breaker. “I was talking to him on the court and he talked about getting his shot up,” Graham coach Matt Birdwell said.
