Steers swept by Eagles

The Steers’ struggles against the Brock Eagles continued with a 10-0 five-inning loss at Brock. The series completed a two-game season sweep of the Steers by the host Eagles, who shut out the Steers in both games.

With a combined nine hits against four Steers pitchers, the Eagles jumped ahead Friday, March 27, with one run in the second inning and never looked back. 

The Eagles added a second run in the third inning, five in the fourth inning and completed the run-rule victory with three runs in the fifth inning.

Lady Blues close historic season

A historic season for the Lady Blues came to a close after they fell 1-0 to the Godley Ladycats in the regional semifinal matchup.

The Lady Blues advanced farther than any soccer team in the history of the Graham soccer program, which began in 2017.

The Lady Blues defense remained strong throughout the game Friday, March 27 in Weatherford, battling a cold front with winds making things difficult on both sides of the field. 

With 14 minutes left in the first half, the Ladycats made a goal that would be the deciding factor in the playoff game.

Graham competes in POJO Relays

With the postseason approaching next month for track and field, Graham’s teams continued their efforts and had standout performances at the POJO Relays last week in Springtown.

The relay was held Thursday, March 26 with the varsity Steers and JV Lady Blues teams scoring sixth-place finishes.

Individual high points came from varsity Lady Blues Emerie Stogner, who placed first in high jump, and Madison Cauble and Briley Randall, who placed first and third in shot put, respectively.

Lady Blues make historic playoff run

For the first time in program history, the Lady Blues have advanced to the regional semifinals round of playoffs following their 1-0 win over the Lubbock-Cooper Liberty Lady Patriots.

Following their bi-district win over the defending state champion Canyon Randall Lady Raiders, the Lady Blues met the Lady Patriots in the area competition Tuesday, March 24 at Sandifer Stadium in Abilene.

It was a defensive showcase from players on both sides that kept the scoreboard at zero for the entirety of the first half.

Steers drop district opener to Eagles

The Graham Steers opened district play hosting the Brock Eagles for the first of back-to-back games against their district foe. 

A strong start Tuesday, March 24 by the Eagles with four runs scored in both the first and second innings, along with dominant pitching by Eagles starter and Arizona State commit Evan O’Conner, proved too much for the Steers, who fell 10-0. 

Toby Boenish and Bryce Martin provided the lone hits for the Steers with a single in the bottom of the second inning by Boenish and a single by Martin to open the bottom of the sixth inning.

Lady Blues fall to Lady Eagles

The Lady Blues fell to 1-2 in district play this season, losing to the Brock Lady Eagles, 11-1, at Hogan Field. 

After giving up two runs Tuesday, March 24 in the first inning, a series of defensive miscues by the Lady Blues led to a seven-run second inning for the Lady Eagles. The visitors added another pair of runs in the third inning to open up an 11-run advantage.

Steers fall in bi-district

Battling a top-ranked team and the Texas heat, the Steers fell last week to the Pampa Harvesters.

The Steers made the long trip to Happy State Bank Stadium in Canyon for the bi-district game Friday, March 20. 

While the defense put up a firm front in the first half keeping the Harvesters to only one goal, the Steers struggled to find a rhythm and two more goals in the second half ended the matchup at 3-0.

Wheeler competes at state powerlifting

Newcastle Ladycat Ava Wheeler competed last week in the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association State Championship and represented her community.

Wheeler was the sole athlete from Newcastle to compete in the state competition held Wednesday, March 18 at the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg.

During the state championship, Wheeler placed 11th in the 97-pound weight class with a total of 360 pounds, with 125 pounds on squat, 80 points on bench press and 155 pounds on deadlift.

Lady Blues advance to area

The heat bearing down and an extended game was not enough to crush the spirit of the Lady Blues who walked away with another bi-district championship after their win over the Canyon Randall Lady Raiders.

The Lady Blues made the trip Thursday, March 19 to Burkburnett Bulldog Stadium for the bi-district matchup. The Lady Raiders were looking to defend their state championship title after defeating the Wimberley Lady Texans in April 2025.
