Steers end regular season with 5-4 win over Glen Rose

The Steers went into their home matchup against the Glen Rose Tigers looking to pick up momentum towards the postseason. That’s exactly what they accomplished with a 5-4 win. 

After dominating the Tigers with a 6-0 shutout Tuesday, April 22. The Steers went into their contest on Friday looking for a sweep. 

The team decided to go with an unconventional starter at the beginning of the contest. Head coach Allen McGee decided to give Bruin Wright the start over guys like Ryder Taylor and Mike Garcia who have started all season.

Jade Dospapas finished second in the girls singles tournament, Stacey Gonzalez (shown above) finished fourth and Kline Krupp and Heather Wright finished fourth in the girls doubles tournament.

Graham tennis sees regional advancement in Brownwood

The Steers and Lady Blues tennis teams both had strong outings at the district 6-4A championships in Brownwood. 

After competing for two days, athletes from both teams qualified for high-ranking matches in the tournament and had one of their athletes advance to the regional championships. 

The most notable advancement for the Lady Blues came from Jade Dospapas. 

She finished the two-day tournament as the singles runner-up for girls’ participants and advanced to the regional championships from her performance.

Lady Blues season ends in Snyder with loss to Lady Tigers

The Lady Blues' season has officially come to an end in Snyder. The team fell in their opening playoff series to the Lady Tigers in game two by a score of 9-2. 

After losing game one of the series to the Lady Tigers in Graham, the Lady Blues traveled to Snyder with their backs against the wall in a win-or-go-home situation. 

Senior Zoey Harrell took the mound for what was ultimately her final game in a Lady Blues uniform and looked strong early. Harrell got through a clean bottom of the first by not surrendering any runs.

Harrell sent the Lady Blues to the playoffs with her two run walk off home run against the Mineral Wells Lady Rams. Harrell is a senior and a leader for the Lady Blues.

The Steers and Lady Blues had a very successful week of sports filled with playoff implications. 

The Steers and Lady Blues track and field teams traveled to Lubbock to compete in the regional championships. 

The regional championships for Steers golf also took place and Graham’s baseball and softball teams have put together a string of wins to add to their playoff pushes.

Steers show fight in loss to Glen Rose 7-5

The junior varsity Steers showed fight in their come from behind effort against the Glen Rose Tigers. Unfortunately for the Steers, the lead was just too insurmountable in their 7-5 loss.

The Steers got into some trouble right away in the bottom of the first when the team surrendered a leadoff double. The Glen Rose runner then stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly to open the scoring 1-0 in favor of Glen Rose.

Taylor, Mahaney both homer in 6-0 shutout win over Glen Rose Tigers

The Steers picked up a huge win Tuesday for their playoff push in Glen Rose. The Steers dominated the Tigers 6-0 in a holistic display of effectiveness. 

Ryder Taylor and Tripp Mahaney took their positions in the field in the bottom of the first and showed dominance throughout the entire contest. 

Taylor pitched a complete game shutout and head coach Allen McGee spoke after the game about the relationship between Taylor and Mahaney.

Harrell sends Lady Blues to playoffs with ‘moneyball moment’

The Lady Blues clinched their ticket to the postseason in a 4-2 win over the Mineral Wells Lady Rams. 

The pivotal game of their season was capped off with a signature moment from the team’s lone senior Zoey Harrell. 

Based on the results of their series, the potential playoff spots for both teams had yet to be decided. The teams held an emergency tie breaker game Friday, April 18 at a neutral site in Graford.

Steers pick up gritty 2-0 win over Yellow Jackets

The Steers showed grit and toughness in their matchup Thursday against the Stephenville Yellow Jackets. 

The team picked up a huge 2-0 victory in the biggest stretch of their season. 

Right from the jump, the Steers showed a different level of focus set by pitcher Bruin Wright. The senior was the anchor the team leaned on during this performance as he didn’t allow a single run.

Steers bats couldn’t find the grass in 10-0 loss to Stephenville

The Steers junior varsity baseball team couldn’t find the grass on offense against the Stephenville Yellow Jackets. This played a big factor in their eventual 10-0 loss. 

“It felt like it was one of those games, we rip one and its right at the shortstop for a double play,” Head coach Bubba Brewster said. “I thought it was one of those games where everything we hit was right at them.”

Graham's season ends at regional track meet

After competing in the area championships in Abilene, 11 Graham track and field athletes traveled to Lubbock for the regional championships with hopes of advancing to the state tournament. 

While the track and field season has officially come to an end. Those who competed made their team and families proud.
