Archer promoted to Newcastle AD, head football coach

Newcastle ISD has found someone to take the reign of Bobcats football and they did not have to look far. When two-a-days start Aug. 1, Defensive Coordinator Isiah Archer will be the one leading the team. Archer was promoted to replace head coach and athletic director Julian Menchaca, who left Newcastle after four seasons to be the next head football coach and athletic director at Vernon Northside.

Young County represented in Oil Bowl Classic

Graham High School graduates Richard Forbes and Rachel Grimsley represented the Steers and Lady Blues for a final time Saturday night in the Maskat Shrine Annual Oil Bowl Classic. Forbes played on the West Texas All-Stars during the football game at Iowa Park.

Olney’s Luis Mario Marquez played on the East Texas All-Stars. Grimsley was a member of the West Texas All-Stars in the large school volleyball game at Rider High School. The 85th annual event took place at Iowa Park this year due to construction at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.

Lady Blues enjoy program firsts in 2022 season

With school out for the summer and the end of the high school sports year, The Graham Leader will take a look back at the year that was before taking a look at the year ahead. In this edition of The Graham Leader, we will look back at the 2022 season for Lady Blues soccer.

The 2022 season was a season of growing pains, but also a season of program firsts. For the first time in program history, the team climbed out of the bottom of the district standings. In August, the Lady Blues will be sending its first alumnus to play college soccer.

Graham, Newcastle represented at Big Country FCA All-Star Festival

Athletes from Graham High School and Newcastle High School represented their schools last week at the 2022 Big Country FCA All-Star Festival. The festival took place in Abilene, Brownwood,  Eastland and San Angelo with events for baseball, basketball, football, softball, cheerleading and golf.

More than 325 of the Big Country region’s top athletes representing 88 high schools were selected to participate.
