GHS tennis opens season with back-to-back wins

Graham tennis is off to a fast start for the 2022 team tennis season. Coach Mandy Cernosek is off to a 2-0 start in her first year as tennis head coach following wins over Decatur and Lake Worth Friday and Saturday. This marks the second-straight 2-0 start for Graham tennis.

Decatur played host for Graham’s season-opening match Friday which saw Graham coming home with a 13-6 win over Decatur.

Steers and Lady Blues skeet shoot fundraiser returns next weekend

The annual Steers and Lady Blues baseball and softball skeet shoot fundraiser is approaching fast. Taking place Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Young County Warrior Ranch, the fundraiser supports uniforms and tournament travel for both teams.

Located at 1889 Turtle Hole Road, the fundraiser will include a silent auction, gun raffle and a barbecue lunch. The entry fee is $20 per shooter.

Thompson prepares to continue Steers QB legacy

Two-a-days in football officially began Monday. For the Graham Steers, that meant the official practices for a team looking to replace 19 seniors from the Class of 2021. Steers head coach Kenny Davidson spoke of his excitement of a sophomore class of athletes making their way through Graham High School. On the football field, that sophomore class is led by quarterback Ty Thompson.

Monday marks the start of football two-a-days in Texas. Teams across the state will begin their official preparation for Aug. 26 season-opening games. Following a slate of non-district games, teams will compete in their new districts following the UIL’s bi-annual redistricting.

The Graham Steers will compete in District 3-4A Division II against a completely new group of teams. Fighting with the Steers for a district title and one of four playoff spots will be Wichita Falls Hirschi, Midland Greenwood, Snyder and Sweetwater.
