Schaffer is running off to college

Graham Lady Blues track runner RoseMary Schaffer signed her national letter of intent to run at McMurry University on Thursday morning in the library at Graham High School. The signing caps off a record-breaking high school career for Schaffer, a four-year runner at the varsity level for the Lady Blues. It was a career that Schaffer was not sure she would ever have.

Southerland and Husen create their own senior night

When UIL canceled the remainder of the spring sports season, Lady Blues senior shortstop Alex Husen called her best friend and Lady Blues’ star pitcher Emma Southerland. They both agreed that nothing was going to take their senior night away.
On May 11, the two returned to the softball field, in uniform, one last time. Joined by their parents, Coach Arrington and Coach Hogan, the “Comeback Queens” returned to the house that Hogan built, one last time.

Run for the Children moves to weekend virtual run

To help practice and maintain social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, the 15th Annual Run for the Children has gone virtual. Participants will be able to run or walk anywhere, even on a treadmill, during the weekend of May 16.

“It is imperative that those participating comply with CDC guidelines to maintain social, or, physical, distancing during this time,” said run organizer Dori Cawley.

The Dream Team runs its final lap

An exhibition run on a Monday morning was not the way Summer Croxton, Rosie Schaffer, Chloe Menard and Claire Jones envisioned their high school track careers ending. All four had dreams of one last trip to state to cap off their senior years at Graham High School. The four hold a school record in the 4x200 meter relay and needed one last run after COVID-19 ended their senior seasons prematurely. The four runners gathered one last time at Newton Field to get one last run. They wanted to end their season on their terms.

Teplicek signs to play basketball at Jacksonville College

As Lady Blues center Cammi Teplicek signs to play basketball at Jacksonville College, Graham High School sends another athlete off to college.
“I just think it’s a nice college,” Teplicek said. “It’s in a good place, and it’s a good Christian college. I’ve heard a lot of nice things about it.”

The signing comes after a season in which she averaged 13.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, an output worthy of District 6-4A offensive most valuable player honors. The bond between coach and athlete started in 2015 with a welcoming gift from Coach Graham.
