Lady Blues basketball goes 2-2 at Jacksboro Shootout

JACKSBORO - Bumps in the road are normal during any part of a regular season. Progress is also a norm for a season, which is what the Graham Lady Blues basketball team was seeking this past weekend. Graham managed to go 2-2 at the Jacksboro Shootout, claiming victories over South Hills and Archer City in the process. The Lady Blues (4-6) were scheduled to be at home Tuesday night against Decatur, and will be at the Santo Tournament this beginning on Thursday. Graham will take on May at 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, before playing again at 8:30 p.m.

Graham’s Sims earns TGCA All-Star honors

After helping the Graham Lady Blues reach the regional quarterfinals this season in volleyball, junior Jasmine Sims was on cloud nine. Due to her stellar season, Sims was also named as the District 9-4A Offensive Player of the Year. Something the junior standout wasn’t expecting though was an even bigger offseason award. It was recently announced that Sims was named as a Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star for classes 1A-4A, and will participate in the TGCA Red-Blue All-Star game this July in Austin, as part of the 1A-4A blue squad. “I was very excited, and nearly started crying,” Sims sa

Graham Steers ready for area round test against MHS Loboes

During the course of a playoff run, it’s not uncommon for a team to run into an opponent they have defeated or lost to in years past. Friday night in the area round of the playoffs, the Graham Steers will meet one of those familiar faces in the Loboes, when these two teams battle it out for a spot in the regional quarterfinals. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

Lady Blues basketball drops opener

With only a few days of practice as a full team under their belt, the Graham Lady Blues took to the floor Saturday afternoon in their season opener against the Jacksboro Tigerettes from the Graham High School gymnasium. Unfortunately, the Lady Blues showed they still need time to gel as a team, as Jacksboro was able to earn a comfortable 60-21 victory. Graham’s offense struggled to gain traction in the contest. The Lady Blues didn’t score their first basket until near the end of the first quarter when the Tigerettes held a 17-2 lead. The offensive problems continued in the second quarter.

Graham JH girls basketball plays McNeil

Following a successful opening week of the season, the Graham Lady Blues junior high basketball teams took the floor Monday night against McNeil looking to claim more victories to start the season. In the seventh grade “A” team contest, the Lady Blues improved to 2-0 on the season with a 29-22 victory. Shae Mercer led the Lady Blues with 9 points in the contest, with Rachel Grimsley scoring 7 points.

Area basketball teams playing over break

With Thanksgiving Break on the minds of people at the end of this week, there will be plenty of basketball on offer for hungry sports fans. The Graham Steers are scheduled to be in action Monday afternoon, Nov. 21, on the road against Stephenville, while the Lady Blues will be at home on the same day against Paradise, before playing their final game before the break against Breckenridge on the road Tuesday, Nov. 22. Both the Steers and Lady Blues will then return to action on Nov.

Bobcats rout Gorman; Jonesboro Eagles up next

STRAWN - If there’s two things that go hand in hand, it’s Newcastle Bobcats football and the playoffs. Another thing many associate with Newcastle is winning in the playoffs, which is exactly what happened Friday night. The Bobcats (8-3) used a smothering defensive attack combined with a high octane offense to overwhelm the Gorman Panthers, leading to a 58-12 victory in the bi-district round of the playoffs from Greyhound Stadium in Strawn. Gorman held the Bobcats’ offense in check for the much of the first half, and Newcastle led 8-0 going into the second quarter.

Area round tickets on pre-sale; GISD releasing school early Friday

Fans who wish to purchase tickets for the area round football game between the Graham Steers and Monahans Loboes in Lubbock can do so at the GISD administration building from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. today and Thursday. The cost for tickets sold at the administration building will be $6 for students and $8 for adults. All tickets sold at Jones AT&T Stadium will be $10 at the gate with ticket windows opening at 5:30 p.m. and the stadium gates opening at 6 p.m.

Steers ready to tangle with Godley Wildcats in bi-district

Tradition is a word often associated with Graham Steers football. One of those traditions comes in the form of the playoffs, which the Steers have made for the eighth straight season in a row after finishing second in district 3-4A (II). The journey towards AT&T Stadium and the state finals will begin Thursday night for the Steers (6-4), as they travel to Porcupine Stadium in Springtown for a Bi-district playoff game against the Godley Wildcats (8-2) with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
