Steers basketball suffers first defeat in Santo tourney

SANTO - A sign of a team’s character is usually shown when it is faced with adversity. For the Graham Steers, their adversity came this past weekend during the conclusion of the Santo Tournament. After two quality victories over Covenant Classical, and the Granbury JV team, the Steers advanced to the championship game. PERRIN - Following a tough loss at home versus Strawn, the Bryson Cowgirls went into last weekend in search of a spark to ignite their season. At the Pirate Classic on the campus of Perrin-Whitt High School, the Cowgirls managed to come away with two momentum building victories. ALBANY - A problem this season for the Newcastle Lady Cats has been finding a consistent winning formula. This past weekend at the Albany Holiday Classic, Newcastle went in search of a solution to break its recent losing streak. While the Lady Cats might have broken their losing streak, the tourney ended on a sour note with a loss to Early. Newcastle was scheduled to play Gordon Tuesday night on the road. GJHS Lady Blues basketball teams sweep past Barwise

While the weather might have been turning frightful Monday night, the Graham Lady Blues junior high basketball teams’ play was very delightful. Graham’s 7th and 8th grade girls teams made the trip to Wichita Falls to take on Barwise, with all teams winning. The 7th grade “B” team managed to come away with a 29-18 victory. At the end of the first quarter the Lady Blues held a 7-4 advantage. Graham led 16-10 at halftime, before outscoring Barwise 13-8 in the second half. Lady Blues basketball goes 2-2 at Jacksboro Shootout

JACKSBORO - Bumps in the road are normal during any part of a regular season. Progress is also a norm for a season, which is what the Graham Lady Blues basketball team was seeking this past weekend. Graham managed to go 2-2 at the Jacksboro Shootout, claiming victories over South Hills and Archer City in the process. The Lady Blues (4-6) were scheduled to be at home Tuesday night against Decatur, and will be at the Santo Tournament this beginning on Thursday. Graham will take on May at 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, before playing again at 8:30 p.m.

Graham’s Sims earns TGCA All-Star honors

After helping the Graham Lady Blues reach the regional quarterfinals this season in volleyball, junior Jasmine Sims was on cloud nine. Due to her stellar season, Sims was also named as the District 9-4A Offensive Player of the Year. Something the junior standout wasn’t expecting though was an even bigger offseason award. Friday night in the area round of the playoffs, the Graham Steers will meet one of those familiar faces in the Loboes, when these two teams battle it out for a spot in the regional quarterfinals.
