Steers pick up victory at ACS tournament

The Graham Steers took another step into their season in the ACS tournament and played a variety of teams such as Cache, Littlefield, Fort Worth and Bowie. 

The Steers showed fight throughout the tournament and were able to pick up a win against Littlefield 7-3. 

The tournament was held from Thursday, Feb. 26 through Saturday Feb. 28 and the Steers’ big win over Littlefield took place on the first day of the tournament after their matchup against Cache.

Steers end seven-year playoff drought with bi-district win

The Graham Steers made history earlier in the week when they traveled out to Clyde High School for their opening round bi-district playoff matchup against the San Angelo Lake View Chiefs. 

There was a lot riding on this game for Graham as coming into the contest they had not won a playoff game in seven years. 

That drought finally came to an end when the Steers came away with a well-fought victory in a 38-32 thriller.

Lady Blues drop matchup against Lady Greyhounds

The Graham Lady Blues played at home for teacher appreciation night against the Peaster Lady Greyhounds in an early week matchup. 

It was a back and forth affair, but the Lady Blues ended up dropping the game in a narrow 16-14 loss.

The Lady Blues got off to a slow start against the Lady Greyhounds, trailing by as much as six runs going into the second half of the game. However, after going scoreless through the first four innings of play against Peaster, Graham caught fire in the home half of the fifth.

Bobcats’ season ends in bi-district

The Newcastle Bobcats traveled to Jacksboro High School for a bi-district matchup against the Bellevue Eagles. 

The Bobcats fought hard in their matchup but ultimately lost to the Eagles by a final score of 49-32. 

Newcastle got off to a slow start trailing 12-5 after the end of the first quarter. Keyton Newland got the Bobcats on the board with a three pointer but then hit a bit of a cold spell for the rest of the quarter. Eventually, Jacob Omundi got the team back on the board again with a layup.

The Graham Leader is recognizing Larissa Warren of the Lady Blues and Max Coyac of the Steers as this week’s Athletes of the Week.

The Lady Blues took the field at home Monday, Feb. 23 for a matchup against the Peaster Lady Greyhounds that also represented teacher appreciation night for Graham.

Lady Blues remain undefeated in district with Bridgeport shutout

The Graham Lady Blues took a road trip out to Bridgeport for a matchup against the Lady Bulls and once again came away with another dominant victory 3-0. 

Every game for the Lady Blues on their schedule is crucial at this point as the team remains undefeated in district with a 5-0 record and a record of 12-1-4 on the season as a whole. 

However the school is also making history on their run this season so far.

Steers hit off first tournament in Clyde

The Graham Steers opened their regular season earlier this week and traveled on the road for a tournament in Clyde. 

The Steers started off the season in style with a bevy of dominant victories to begin with momentum. 

The Steers got the opportunity to play against teams like Comanche, Hawley, Early and Tolar and came away with wins in each of those matchups. 

What was especially impressive for the Steers was the offensive firepower that was present throughout the entire tournament which ran from Thursday, Feb. 19 to Saturday, Feb. 21.

Bobcats win seeding matchup over Bryson

The Newcastle Bobcats wrapped up their regular season in a big matchup against the Bryson Cowboys. 

Not only was this the final game of the regular season, it was also to determine where the Bobcats would rank in their tournament bracket going into the playoffs. The Bobcats entered the next stage of their season with momentum defeating the Cowboys 53-36. 

Head coach James King spoke about what an important win this was for the team after the game.

Steers drop district matchup against Bulls

The Graham Steers traveled to Bridgeport for a district matchup against the Bulls and despite a fight, were not able to come away with the victory losing 5-1.  

Just like the Lady Blues though, the Steers have three more district games to play going into the final stretch of their regular season to try and end things off on a high note against Burkburnett, Decatur and Mineral Wells. 

That next matchup against Burkburnett could be a key match to try and break the three game skid as the team has had success against them previously.
