Lady Blues ranked No. 15 in state, beat Jacksboro

The Graham Lady Blues showed up in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association as the No. 15 ranked 4A team in the state. The honor comes after a week in which the Blues fell to 3A No. 8 ranked team, Boyd, before disposing with Brownwood and Jacksboro. "It came out that we're No. 15 on Monday but they didn't find out until Wednesday," Faulk said. "I didn't really want them to know, but it came out and I think that has given them some confidence.

Steers get first win with 28-0 shutout

The Graham Steers got their first win in a 28-0 shutout over the Hirschi Huskies Friday night at Newton Field.
The two teams came in with opposite records, Graham winless while the Huskies boasted dual victories and no losses.
But it was the Steers who came out with the first touchdown of the game to go up 7-0 early.
A Hirschi fumble on the ensuing drive gave Graham the ball in desirable field position where Jaxon Brockway walked it in from five yards out to put the score at 14-0.

Bryson remains undefeated after win over Notre Dame

The Bryson Cowboys took down the No. 3 team in the TAPPS Divison II with Friday night’s 69-24 home victory over Notre Dame. Leading the charge for Bryson was Paul Davidson who had a supremely well-rounded game with an interception, a fumble recovery, two receiving touchdowns and 76 receiving yards. Brayden Houser passed for 103 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 69 yards and a touchdown. Ethan Robinson rushed for 205 yards and three touchdowns. “We started fast and so did they,” Bryson coach Jason Briles said.

Faulk wants more consistency after win over Brownwood

It may not have been pretty but the Lady Blues got back to their winning ways against Brownwood Friday night. Graham beat Brownwood 25-20; 25-18; 25-18 in a sweep that left much to be desired, according to coach Marci Faulk. “I didn’t think we started strong,” she said. “We looked sluggish early and we couldn’t get out of that entirely. We looked good for a couple of plays and then we would go back to being sloppy.

Steers stumble in second half against Brownwood

The Brownwood Lions snuck past the Graham Steers with a 34-30 win Friday night in a game decided by a handful of plays. It was a blow-for-blow affair with both teams throwing haymakers at one another, and Brownwood just happen to have one extra punch in the form of a blocked punt returned for a Brownwood touchdown. The late fourth quarter play turned Graham’s 30-27 lead into a four-point deficit that the Steers would not be able to recover from. The game opened with a Graham drive resulting in a six-yard Jaxon Brockway touchdown run that was followed by a Wes Martin two-point conversion on a b

Lady Blues looking positively at tough week behind them

The last two weeks for the Graham Lady Blues have been up and down, both in the win/loss column and with their level of play. The Blues ended last week with an undefeated Thursday at the Argyle tournament’s pool play, in which Graham beat Ponder (25-20; 26-24; 25-18), Anna (25-15; 25-17; 25-17) and Little Elm (25-10; 25-22; 25-16) without losing a set. Things began to turn during Saturday’s bracket play in Argyle when the Blues lost at the hands of Kennedale (19-25; 18-25; 25-20; 25-22; 11-15) and Frisco Heritage (23-25; 21-25; 29-27; 25-17; 11-15) before again beating Ponder (15-25; 25-10; 25

Graham tennis falls to Iowa Park in home-opening tournament

It wasn’t the typical tournament Tuesday when Iowa Park came to the Graham tennis courts. The 4 p.m. start was immediately pushed back 30 minutes by weather, and later a two-hour weather delay forced teams to finish the tournament playing only to 10 points. Ultimately, the results weren’t far from expected with the favorite, Iowa Park, taking the tournament, but Graham coach Matt Birdwell saw a lot of good signs from his players too. “We’re improving,” Birdwell said. “We’re young so the ceiling is high. It was good to play against Iowa Park.

Lady Blues take first at Burkburnett invitational

You never know what to expect on the first game, tournament or meet of the season. The difference between practice and true competition is too vast. If the first meet is any indication, the Lady Blues cross country team could be an exciting bunch to watch. The Blues took home the first place trophy in Division II at the Perkins Invitational in Burkburnett Thursday, led by Debi Hunter and Kendra Williams who finished four seconds apart in seventh and eighth place. Just 11 seconds behind the first two Graham finishers was another group of Blues. Priscilla Herrera finished in 11th place, while Kh
