Lady Blues 2-0 after win over Lady Leopards

The Lady Blues remained undefeated to start the season after taking down the Wichita Falls Legacy Lady Leopards in a blowout victory. Graham improved to a 2-0 record after the win. 

The matchup took place Saturday, Nov. 15 and the Lady Blues blew out the Lady Leopards 60-39. 

Graham started things off, ending the opening quarter with 15 points and following that up in the second quarter with 14 points to finish the first half with 29 total points.

Bobcats shut out Buffaloes, named bi-district champions

The Bobcats meant business in their first round playoff matchup against the Petersburg Buffaloes, blowing out their opponent 73-0. 

Newcastle made quick work of their opponent Friday, Nov. 14 in a mercy rule win that was over by halftime. 

The team was dominant in their usual facets of play. The Bobcats had multiple rushing touchdowns to set the tone early and even had a pick six in the first quarter to help them take advantage early.

Steers bi-district champions after Wildcats shutout

The Graham Steers returned home as bi-district champions after a complete victory over the Godley Wildcats.

From the jump, the Steers were dominant Friday, Nov. 14 in Aledo. One of the key players who took over early was Colt Taylor. 

In the first half alone Taylor had multiple rushing touchdowns and was a force on defense. 

The defensive unit halted the Wildcats on a drive where they were trying to get on the scoreboard to cut into the Steers’ 14-0 lead, but Taylor put a stop to that with a sack to force a turnover on downs.

Lady Blues open season with win over Haskell

The Graham Lady Blues basketball team opened the season on a high note with a victory over the Haskell Lady Indians. 

This was a big character building win as the team kicked off into the regular season. 

“We put 61 points on the board and that's huge for us,” head coach Baylee Thompson said. “We’re 1-0, that’s an exciting thing. It’s a good way to start the season, we just have to keep that energy going and get ready for our next game.”

Ladycats fall to Graford Lady Rabbits

The Newcastle Ladycats have been fighting hard to start the season but lost to the Graford Lady Rabbits and dropping to 0-2 on the season. 

The game took place Tuesday, Nov. 11 and despite the loss there were still solid performances from the team. 

The three scorers on the night for the Ladycats were Emma Hawkins, Camren Mallory and Kinsey Hawkins.

Emma Hawkins led the way in scoring with 12 points on the night. She was in control in the short and midrange game with two midrange jumpshots and eight free throws from the charity stripe.

Street had a big scoring night in the Lady Blues’ 61-51 win over the Haskell Lady Indians with 10 points, a pair of rebounds, an assist and two steals to help Graham seal the victory Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Alexander, Street named Athletes of the Week

The Graham community is officially starting the transition into their winter sports schedule which means a new face for Athlete of the Week. 

This week, The Graham Leader is recognizing Ava Street of the Lady Blues and Jordan Alexander of the Steers for this week’s Athletes of the Week. 

Ava Street, Lady Blues Basketball

The Lady Blues basketball team got things started off on a high note, beginning their regular season with a victory in front of the hometown crowd against the Haskell Lady Indians.

JV Lady Blues dominate Haskell in season opener

The JV Lady Blues kicked off their regular season against the Haskell Lady Indians this past week, starting the season on a high note with a win.

The game took place Tuesday, Nov. 11 at home and the Lady Blues came out with the victory 45-15. 

After both teams missed a few shots to start the contest, the Lady Blues eventually kicked things off with Carmen McGee picking up a steal and McKynley Corley finding Addison Gober on the other end for a layup to make it 2-0.

Ladycats honored with district awards

The Newcastle Ladycats volleyball season came to an end in the area round of the playoffs this season against the Harrold Lady Hornets. 

Despite the loss, there is still much to celebrate for the Ladycats this year. 

The team made the community proud with their performance throughout the year and once again making a run to the second round of the playoffs. 

The success of the team has also brought individual awards for several team members. The Ladycats up and down the board were recognized with district awards.

Steers warm up for season with scrimmage

The Graham Steers are well into their training program as they ramp up for the regular season. 

The team got a taste of competition in scrimmage matches this past weekend prior to their first regular season game. 

These matches took place Saturday, Nov. 8, against Springtown and Poolville. 

In these matches, the Steers went 1-1 beating the Porcupines in their first matchup while losing to the Monarchs in their second contest.

Bobcats score dominant victory over Cowboys

The Newcastle Bobcats didn’t let Bryson’s senior night deter them from picking up a dominant win. The Bobcats defeated the Cowboys 82-6 to go into the postseason with momentum. 

Offensively, the run game was pivotal in picking up the dominant victory. London Martinez, once again, led the charge with four carries for 141 yards and three touchdowns. 

Keegen Voyles also had 28 rushing yards and a touchdown and Joey Soito was right behind him with 24 rushing yards and a touchdown.
